Summer Food Program
The Summer Food Service Program is a State of Illinois funded program to provide free nutritious meals and snacks for children from low income families during the summer months when there is no school. Voluntary Action Center is the administrator of the summer food program for DeKalb County.
During the months of June, July and August, meals are prepared by Voluntary Action staff for several local summer camp programs. Those camps that participate in the Summer Food Program in DeKalb County include the DeKalb Park District, YMCA, DeKalb-Sycamore Association of Special Recreation's Camp Maple Leaf, Mason Court Apartments summer camp and Neighbor's House. The Summer Food Program prepares and delivers an average of 300 meals per day.
